How to Build Your Workforce with Apprenticeships

Apprenticeships are not what you think they are; they are much better.  Apprenticeships provide individuals with on-the-job opportunities to obtain workplace-relevant knowledge and progressively advancing skills and are one of the many pathways that can lead to a successful career or assist employers in preparation for succession as talent leaves or retires.

Whether job-seekers are just starting out making a change in their career, or an employer is seeking better ways to train their existing workforce within an industrywide approved program, an apprenticeship is an effective training strategy that combines on-the-job learning with classroom instruction.

If you are planning for succession and preparing your existing less experienced talent within your company for future positions as many leave or retire, an apprenticeship program is an excellent option for almost every profession and at every level.  Registered apprenticeships can offer job security for both the employee and employer as over 70% of 2016 college graduates planned on leaving their job within the first three years while registered apprenticeships demonstrated an 89% three-year retention rate according to the U.S. Department of Labor.

An employer can train an apprentice within its own culture and practices without outside influences or the need to eliminate less preferred habits gained elsewhere.  Apprentices who completed their apprenticeships stay with the company who sponsored them to become long-term employees in over 90% of reported cases.  Employer savings can also be realized through reduced hiring costs and incremental wage increases based on new qualifications and new skills learned through an apprenticeship program, while your employee can earn a portable nationally or industry-recognized credential, certificate or degree.

The return on investment for a registered apprenticeship program is $1.46 for every $1 invested in an apprentice.  It makes sense to consider building your own workforce with over 23,400 registered nationally recognized apprenticeship options to choose from.
