Layton City Announces October Small Business Seminar

“Attracting and Retaining Employees” is the topic of Layton City’s October 2021 Small Business Seminar, slated for October 28 from 12:00 noon to 1:00 p.m. The city’s Community and Economic Development department continues this popular business education series in less than two weeks, featuring Darren Rogers with the Utah Department of Workforce Services.

The Wall Street Journal, Monster.com and Microsoft are predicting anywhere from 40 to 95% of U.S. employees are currently poised to resign from their jobs — the possible prelude to an occupational pandemic for employers. The COVID-19 Pandemic and its effect on employment added to the present reduction of skilled employees due to those naturally aging out of the workforce and a smaller population of the generation to follow.  The upcoming class will help business owners and managers plan for potential resignations, and craft effective recruitment and retention strategies.

Rogers is a specialist in economic and workforce development. Prior to his current role, he served as the department’s ombudsman for 13 years, managing relationships with constituents on behalf of the executive director, governor and congressional delegation.  His expertise is in human resources, public relations, marketing, workforce development and conflict resolution. He earned a Master’s in Public Administration from the University of Utah.

The city’s seminars offer the opportunity for local business leaders to spend a lunchbreak learning how to make their business more successful. The class will be held in-person at the offices of Valentine CPA (944 E Gordon Avenue, Layton) and features a free lunch, courtesy of Layton’s First Community Bank. Past classes have provided effective training on a wide array of business-related topics by local business owners and experts. Topics have included: small business accounting, tax strategies, marketing, social media marketing, creating successful business habits and more.

Layton City works in conjunction with the local Small Business Development Center in Kaysville, Utah to produce its Small Business Seminars. For more information, contact Morgan Cloward 801-336-3770, mcloward@laytoncity.org.
