Layton City Details CDBG Accomplishments for 2022

CDBG funds helped in the acquisition of this lot to building an affordable home for a low-to-moderate-income family.

Layton City’s department of Community and Economic Development is pleased to highlight some of the recent accomplishments from its Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Annual Action Plan. The CDBG program is administered by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).  It provides annual grants to states, cities, and counties to develop viable urban communities by providing decent housing and a suitable living environment, and expanding economic opportunities for principally for low-and-moderate-income residents.

HUD recently informed Layton City that it successfully administered funding during the 2021-2022 program year by supporting the following activities:

  • Acquisition of real property for a teen resource center
  • Home repair and rehabilitation projects
  • Public services support including: Safe Harbor domestic violence shelter, Open Doors emergency nursery and homeless program, Lantern House homeless shelter, and Youth Court
  • Down payment assistance for eight low-to-moderate-income households in Layton City

The City’s Emergency Repair and Rehab program assisted local home owners with critical needs including: water heater replacement, furnace replacement, plumbing work, window replacement and more. Each CDBG activity must meet one of the following national objectives for the program: benefit low-and-moderate-income persons, prevent or eliminate slums or blight, and address community development needs having a particular urgency.
