UTOPIA Fiber’s Survey Respondents Rely on High-Speed Internet

Several members of Utah’s workforce continue to work remotely and depend on high-speed Internet for business and their everyday tasks. The importance of a reliable high-speed Internet connection was realized in a recent survey of broadband subscribers by UTOPIA Fiber, the nation’s largest Open Access fiber Internet network.

The survey showed that today’s consumers equate connectivity with a better quality of life. About 2,500 UTOPIA Fiber subscribers, ages 19 and up were polled in 16 Utah cities. According to the survey results, 97% of respondents said they used the Internet in their home for smartphones. Other substantial uses included laptop computers (91%), smart TVs (82%), tablets (78%), and desktop computers (74%).

Today’s remote workforce and students depend upon fast and reliable Internet speed. Almost half of UTOPIA Fiber customers shared that they invested in at least one Gigabit per second (Gbps), and 37% use at least a 250 Megabits (Mbps) connection. The survey also reported that 65% of UTOPIA customers work from home, with 69% using the Internet for video calls, e-mails (92%), and research (61%). About 85% said that access to UTOPIA Fiber has improved their quality of their life, with 96% saying that Internet speed was “extremely important.”

UTOPIA reported that the big takeaway from the survey is that Internet is essentially life. Their customers shared that their communities were better places to live now (76%) because municipalities made the wise decision to invest in fiber and allow every home and business the same opportunities and services at competitive prices.

According to the survey, 95% of respondents said they approved of UTOPIA’s interaction and partnerships with the municipalities they are invested in, and 71% “strongly agreed” with the statement: “I am glad my city invested in UTOPIA Fiber.”

Layton City was one of the first communities in the nation to be fully connected to dedicated fiber service. Dedicated fiber produces the lowest possible latency for downloading/uploading video, or high-definition content. Layton had the vision to anticipate what fiber could mean for its community; and the city is now reaping the benefits of city-wide fiber availability.
