Applications now Available for new Davis School District Home

Layton City and Davis School District (DSD) are pleased to announce the availability of a new home available for purchase by a low- to moderate-income family. The City sometimes acquires vacant lots in town with federal housing funds from HUD’s Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program. These lots are then used to provide land for the construction of an affordable new home for a qualified family.

The City donates the purchased parcels to either the Davis School District or a non-profit foundation named Have a Heart. DSD students, along with their Construction and Technical Education instructors, build a single-family residence that meets all current construction codes and requirements.

Have a Heart oversees partnerships with local contractors, subcontractors and suppliers who provide various services and supplies for free, or at a low cost, to build a home. Both DSD and Have a Heart provide housing opportunities to families who otherwise would not be able to own their own home without their generous help. After a new home is completed, a reduced mortgage is then tailored to meet the qualified family’s financial circumstances.

The most recently constructed DSD home is located at 1133 E 3150 N in Layton. Qualified DSD employees and other first-time homebuyers may apply by downloading the application here.
