Main Street to Receive a Facelift Thanks to Façade Grants Program

Layton City’s Main Street is about to get a facelift of sorts, thanks to recently awarded grant funds from the Davis Fund, through the Davis County Economic Development Department. Main Street façade improvement dollars were recently made available to Layton City businesses located in the Historic Downtown district along Main Street.

The Davis County Main Street Façade Grant program will assist the renovation or restoration plans for three Main Street businesses – First Community Bank, Great Harvest Bread and Jed’s Tire Pros. Both Great Harvest and Jed’s Tires submitted plans to significantly improve and update the entire façade of the front of their buildings.  First Community Bank proposed to replace windows with actual bullet holes, and replace its historic stained glass windows facing Main Street with new stained glass.

These three improvement projects were selected from applications submitted to Layton City’s Redevelopment Agency (RDA). The funding will be provided as reimbursement following construction and verification that work has been completed as proposed.

Main Street businesses in Layton were earlier notified of the funds from the city’s Community & Economic Development department, with applications received through the end of August. The businesses selected were those who’s projects best fit the parameters of the façade improvement grant guidelines. The funding is a grant and is not required to be paid back.
